About the Process
The process to compose the collages is very involved, as the pieces are built from many layers.

To begin, Alex prepares the material by painting the paper with watercolors in different shades and textures. Then, she sketches out a rough draft of each of the mini collages, and plans the arrangement. Alex describes this as putting together a giant puzzle. Next, she cuts out the shapes for each individual mini collage, assembles them, and glues each shape in it’s place to represent an aspect of the subject of the bigger collage. Finally, Alex organizes the mini collages into a single big piece and adds ink details to create texture. Each piece takes her several weeks to complete.
Alex enjoys using bold colours and shapes in her artwork. She borrows a lot of ideas for shapes from nature, such as leaves, rocks, rain drops on glass, plants, and clouds.
Her favourite part is watching the audiences react emotionally to her artwork.
